September 2022 – Ironing 101

Happy September! Spring is here and we’re excited for warmer, sunnier weather (and not driving in morning darkness!) 🙂 Have you started on your spring cleaning yet?

Ironing tips and hacks

Ironing clothes doesn’t seem to be many people’s favourite chore because our Gurus find themselves doing a bit of ironing…but here are some tips our Gurus swear by, to make things more efficient and hassle-free!

Here are some ways you can iron your clothes effectively and with less fuss!

  • Keep your ironing board and iron clean. Otherwise, you might stain clothes the next time you iron them. Especially if your iron has been unused for a while, use the self-clean function on your iron to remove build-up inside the tank and vents.

  • Sort items by ironing temperature. Start with items that require a low ironing temperature for example silks and synthetics, and move on to high-temperature items, like cotton and linens. This saves the wait time of having to continually change the temperature of the iron.

  • Iron clothes while they are still damp. Pressing damp clothes will make your job so much easier since the wrinkles have not been set in the fabric. Hang clothing up immediately as it’ll help them stay fresh and pressed.

  • Keep wrinkling to a bare minimum. Start ironing at the small areas such as cuffs, collars, and sleeves, then work your way to the bigger areas. Ironing lengthwise helps prevent the fabric from stretching.

  • Never iron stains. The heat will set the stain permanently.

  • Read the labels carefully. Nowadays most clothing must carry a composition and care label that follows the International Textile Care Labeling code. The labels provide instructions for the best way to care for garments, how to properly clean, dry, and iron them, and what techniques and products you should avoid.
